Let’s Talk Gardening!

I usually post recipes on my blog but I wanted to talk about growing your own vegetables today! I am a newbie at gardening and have been pretty successful this season. My Daddy always had a green thumb and a huge vegetable garden. I remember as a child working with him in his garden. I didn’t know how much I was learning until now. He would say little things about when to water and how the soil felt that I am starting to remember now. Such beautiful memories!

I decided to start out small this year because I’m the past I haven’t always been so good at keeping plants alive! Then all of a sudden my back patio turned into a small botanical garden! HaHa! I grew one tomato plant and basil from seed. The rest I bought some very small just had the first sprout others larger. I read up on all my plants in my garden shin has include big boy tomatoes, cherry tomatoes, Korean peppers, bell peppers, basil, cilantro, thyme, parsley, Korean cucumbers and my newest addition perilla leaves. The perilla leaves were given to me by a friend and I gifted her with two Korean pepper plants.

Plants require care, love, water, and a great potting mix according to what you are growing. This year all of my garden was in containers. This is a great way to start out if you are a newbie to this! I am the crazy plant lady that talked to her entire garden as I water them first thing in the morning. It starts my day and their day well. I give them plant food every other week. Pruning I found out is very important because one of my tomato plants and now the other one is starting grew wild abs out of control. I had to get a raised bed and convert it to a huge pot and buy a big tomato cage to get it under control. You don’t want you plants to be too wild they will take over. Haha! I am going to check out the epsom salt mix that people are talking about now. I probably won’t use it in this garden because as my Dad used to say leave well enough alone. My garden is doing beautiful with our current routine so not going to rock the boat.

Next up is my fall garden. I am currently planning out what I want to grow and this time I am going to use raised beds. To be able to grow more than one thing in them. I am also researching what grows well together. That is very important. Stay tuned and don’t forget to check me out on YouTube, IG and Facebook @livinvegetarian. There are lots of pics of my garden on there. And remember to Eat More Plants!
